A Pocket Travel Guide to MTR
Artists’ Book
2022
“The map is a presentation of space which is removed from any
real experience we are able to have of that space….it orders priorities.”— Janin Hadlaw
A Pocket Travel Guide to MTR explores storytelling through the form of a puzzle. It critiques subway maps as biased narrators, representing one interpretation of our real world. The book deconstructs the existing subway network of Hong Kong and asks the reader to participate in recreating a new landscape. The individual experiences of the six characters in the book ultimately add up to the multitudes of reality.
